  • Context of the role

    The newly created People & Culture function (comprising HR, Recruitment & Internal Communications) is obsessed with employee engagement and culture; looking at everything from the way we recruit and retain talented people through to engaging them with our work and building brand advocacy amongst our people.

    This is a new role within the team; playing a key leadership role – both across the People & Culture team itself as well as acting as a deputy to the Senior Director as and when needed. We have three big priorities this coming year: help the organisation to scale, improve people engagement and reinforce our culture (known as The Girl Effect Way).

    Key Responsibilities

    • Partner with key members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and their business areas to provide support, guidance and challenge across a range of people issues in order to achieve our business objectives
    • Develop strong relationships with the SLT, acting as a trusted partner and coach to them and their management teams
    • Understand the business and wider context, to identify people solutions and initiatives that drive performance, engagement and impact
    • Responsible for ensuring the effective management and compliance of People governance/risk (ER issues, Safeguarding, policy and process)
    • Lead the people elements of change activity in your business areas – structural and cultural (as well as mentoring the Manager, People & Culture to do the same)
    • Drive talent and development initiatives across the business, including people/leadership development, succession and critical role mapping
    • Take the lead on ensuring day to day delivery of the People & Culture Work Plan and overall service, working collaboratively across the team to achieve results that help us scale, as well as reinforcing our culture and people engagement
    • Lead and deliver specific People projects across the business (including cross functional groups); ensuring successful delivery and adoption
    • Oversee and direct any cyclical People activities such as pay review, promotions and performance conversations
    • Support the Talent & Resourcing Manager in building an annual resourcing plan to support growth
    • Ensure the provision of HR data and insight to drive effective decision making within the function as well as the business
    • Lead the People Team; inspiring high performance, creativity and engagement whilst building a business focused culture
    • Drive continuous improvement and fresh thinking within the team; using networks and personal learning to help us innovate and advance our work
    • Live The Girl Effect Way – our principles and working habits that tie us all together

    Knowledge and Experience

    • Degree qualified or equivalent experience; a coaching qualification would be handy!
    • Track record of successfully operating at a management level in an HR Business Partner Team
    • Embodies the role of a trusted partner; a forward thinker with the ability to engage and develop senior leadership
    • Applies a commercial approach, using internal and external intelligence to achieve business outcomes that align with the Girl Effect Way
    • Demonstrable experience of identifying and delivering people initiatives that have improved business performance and/or people engagement
    • Strong project management skills
    • Experienced in designing and facilitating team development sessions up to and including senior leadership
    • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law; international experience/understanding is a bonus!
    • Desirable: Multi sector experience including creative, digital and not for profit
    • Desirable: International experience (ideally in developing markets such as Africa and Asia)

    • Ability to travel to our other offices from time to time
