  • About Girl Effect

    We are a creative, social business determined to positively impact the lives of adolescent girls to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty in developing countries. We work at the cutting edge of the international development and media sector, and have built a culture that is entrepreneurial and fast paced.

    We are an unusual organisation and bring together a diverse group of people from across a range of disciplines including media brands, digital, evidence, gender specialism and programme implementation from both the private and not-for-profit sectors.

    Girl Effect began as a movement in 2008, founded and championed by NIKE Foundation and multiple partners. With the support of over 150 partners in 90 countries, NIKE Foundation and Girl Effect have positively impacted the lives of millions of girls and influenced global investment in them.

    We became an independent organisation in September 2015, with continued multi-year funding from the NIKE Foundation and multiple, high profile partners. With a new CEO from the global creative industry and an ambitious strategy, the moment is now to build irreversible momentum for girls.


    What We Do

    We build mass media brands, with mobile interactivity and the use of ‘safe spaces’, that engage girls and key influencers in their lives to effect social norm change; breaking down barriers that prevent girls from accessing the services and support they need to progress.  By doing this, we enable girls to have a voice in determining their future and make choices that have a direct impact in unleashing their potential.

    It’s a fresh approach to international development, but one that is gaining ground and has captured the interest of investors and the development world alike.

    Based in London, we have much loved and highly regarded brands in Ethiopia and Rwanda, new collaborations in Nigeria and a freshly launched brand in Malawi, ith plans to move into India in 2018. In addition our mobile platform, Springster, in partnership with Facebook, is now live in over 40 countries in 24 languages.

    Who are we looking for?

    We are offering 2 x 6 month internships based at our Soho office. The Intern programme will be structured in line with live business needs, giving the opportunity to work across our business and deliver meaningful projects. Each intern will rotate between 4 different teams to gain maximum exposure.

    This a full time opportunity. We offer London Living wage (£9.75 per hour) which equates to an annual salary of £19,012.50 for 37.5 hours per week. The salary will be pro-rated for 6 months to £9,506.25.
