Drunk woman drives Kia into police cruiser; man with white powder sideswipes cars: Brook Park police blotter

Operating a vehicle under the influence: Brookpark Road & West 139th Street

An intoxicated Cleveland woman, 52, drove her Kia Soul into a stopped police cruiser at about 1 a.m. April 2 at Brookpark and West 139th.

Police had pulled over another driver for speeding. The woman’s Kia hit the police cruiser as she was making a turn.

As police interviewed the woman, they noticed that she smelled like alcohol. She was slow to answer questions. Her speech was slurred, and she mumbled.

Operating a vehicle under the influence: Ohio 237

A Brook Park man, 34, was arrested at about 2:30 p.m. April 3 after he caused vehicle crashes on Ohio 237, then drove from the scene.

The man’s vehicle sideswiped several cars. No one was hurt. Police found the man’s vehicle stopped at an intersection about a mile away. He was confused and in possession of white powder on a $1 bill.

Criminal mischief: Brookpark Road

A trickster posted a Facebook Marketing advertisement falsely claiming that free heating equipment was available in the parking lot of a business at 14800 Brookpark.

Someone reported the fake ad to police early March 21. The ad said the heaters would become available at 12:15 a.m. that day.

Several people went to the parking lot and started taking the equipment. They later learned on Facebook that the equipment wasn’t free for the taking but was scheduled to be shipped to another location.

Police contacted the owner of the business, who confirmed that he was not giving away heating equipment.

Disturbance: Starlite Drive

A Cleveland man, 40, and a Brook Park woman, 31, became involved in a physical dispute at about 7:30 p.m. April 5 in the parking lot of Holland Garden Apartments, 13384 Starlite.

The woman, who lived at Holland Garden, told police that the man grabbed her by the sweatshirt and neck and pushed her during an argument. The couple’s 17-year-old child then jumped out of the man’s vehicle, grabbed the woman and threatened to punch her. The man called police, and the teen stepped back into the vehicle and locked the doors.

The man told police he tried to move the woman away from his vehicle during the argument so that he could leave. She hit and clawed his face, which is why he called police.

Police said neither the man nor the woman appeared injured or wounded. A prosecutor later decided not to file charges due to lack of independent and/or verifiable evidence.

Grand theft vehicle: Brookpark Road

A 2021 Chrysler Pacifica was reported stolen at 8:45 a.m. March 31 from a car-carrier truck parked outside Two Men and a Truck, 16120 Brookpark.

Grand theft vehicle: Henry Ford Boulevard

A semitruck trailer was stolen between 6 p.m. April 4 and 9:30 a.m. April 5 from the parking lot of Ford Motor Co., 5600 Henry Ford.

Driving with a suspended license, marijuana possession: Brookpark Road

A Brook Park woman, 26, was cited at about midnight April 6 after police caught her driving with a suspended license.

Police stopped the woman’s car on Brookpark at West 150th Street because she was driving 55 mph in a 35-mph zone. Police found and confiscated a bag of marijuana in her vehicle.

Theft: Brookpark Road

A loaded revolver and cell phone were stolen between 7 a.m. March 31 and 1 p.m. April 4 from an unlocked vehicle parked outside Two Men and a Truck, 16120 Brookpark.

Sudden illness: Sheldon Road

A Brook Park woman, 42, was taken to Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights at about 10:30 p.m. April 2 after she ingested an unidentified drug.

The woman told police and paramedics she had smoked “work,” which she said was a combination of crack cocaine and heroin.
