Ranking the five best quotes from Jimbo Fisher’s rant on Nick Saban

It all started Wednesday night when Saban, speaking to a group in Birmingham, Ala., talked about losing out to Fisher and Texas A&M in recruiting, saying, “A&M bought every player on their team. Made a deal for name, image and likeness. We didn’t buy one player.” During that same talk, Saban also talked about Deion Sanders arranging for a top recruit to get money to join Sanders at Jackson State.

“Prime Time” opted to jump on Twitter and defend himself against Saban. Fisher decided to call a press conference. And what a wild press conference it was.

Here are the five best quotes from a press conference full of gems …

5. We are never ever getting back together

Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M still aren’t on the same level as Nick Saban and Alabama but the Aggies are trending in the right direction.

On refusing to take Nick Saban’s calls as the Alabama coach tried to reach out to him after his comments went viral Wednesday night: “We’re done. He’s shown you who he is. He’s the greatest ever, huh? When you have all the advantages, it’s easy.”

4. Bobby Bowden was a friend of mine. Coach, you are no …

“You coach with people like Bobby Bowden and learn how to do things. You coach with other people and learn how not to do things. There’s a reason why I haven’t gone back and worked with (Saban), and there were opportunities. Didn’t want to be associated with him.”

Jimbo Fisher worked under Nick Saban for five years at LSU, but opted to stay in Baton Rouge when Saban left for the Miami Dolphins job. Fisher eventually left LSU to coach under Bobby Bowden at Florida State despite reportedly having an offer to join Saban at Alabama.

3. God complex

“Some people think they’re God. Go dig in to how ‘God’ did his deal and you may find out about a guy, a lot of things you don’t want to know. We build him up to be the czar of football. Go dig into his past or anybody who’s ever coached with him. You can find out anything you want to find out about what he does and how he does it. It’s despicable, it really is.”

2. Bring it on

When asked if it might be awkward when the two coaches see each other at SEC Media Days later this summer or when the teams meet Oct. 8 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.: “Awkward about what? I don’t mind confrontation. Lived with it my whole life. I kind of like it, myself. Backing away from it wasn’t the way I was raised.”

“You can call me anything you want to call me, but you ain’t calling me a cheat. I don’t cheat and I don’t lie. I learned that when I was a kid. If you did, the old man would slap you upside the head. Maybe somebody should have slapped him.”
