Lynda Carter defends Ponder Female as a queer icon
Authentic “Wonder Woman” star Lynda Carter is defending the DC superhero character as a queer icon in honor of Pleasure Month. “Happy Pride! So thrilled to rejoice with all my LGBTQIA+ buddies and followers,” the actress wrote on Twitter, sparking backlash from some homophobic enthusiasts who claimed “Wonder Girl has no business enterprise being concerned with gay legal rights, non genders, pronouns and anything at all else that is versus our Lord.” Other people pointed out that even if the Television exhibit and films haven’t explicitly reported so, DC Comics’ “Wonder Woman” writer Greg Rucka verified in 2016 that Princess Diana of Themyscira is queer.
Carter, who appeared alongside Gal Gadot in the modern “Wonder Woman” films, stood by the character she performed in the 1970s Tv set collection: “I did not generate Wonder Female, but if you want to argue that she is in some way not a queer or trans icon, then you are not spending notice,” she tweeted. “Every time an individual arrives up to me and claims that WW assisted them whilst they had been closeted, it reminds me how particular the position is.”
